The final event for 2018/2019 was the Summer Lunch. Held on 21 August at Amarone Italian Restaurant in Glasgow, a new venue for us, the lunch was a great success. 17 attended and enjoyed delicious food and excellent company. Indeed we were so impressed with Amarone that we will be returning there for the Christmas Lunch.
The JC Quiz, held on Thursday 14 March was intensively competitive! As always Jim provided a variety of questions and great fun was had by all. One team were devastated to realise that far from having all the questions correct (as they briefly thought) they had failed to turn the sheet over and therefore didn't answer any of the questions on the second page!! Many thanks to Jim for all the organising and preparation. The meeting was preceded by the AGM.
February saw the return of Christine Miller, our genealogy expert. This time she moved away from family history to the history of family houses. She gave us some excellent tips for researching houses and as always, her talk was enjoyed by all present.
In January, for our first meeting in 2019, we welcomed Louise Bustard from Glasgow Botanical Gardens. Louise took us on a tour of her favourite Scottish gardens. Louise is an extremely knowledgeable speaker and we could almost ‘smell the roses’! The icing on the cake, so to speak, was the discovery that Vic had a personal connection to the garden at Brodick Castle, Arran – his grandfather was the Head Gardener there.
Our Christmas Lunch, held on 13 December 2018, was well attended and Fratelli Sarti, Renfield Street, Glasgow provided a delicious meal. Much chat (and of course liquid refreshment) took place and this was an excellent start to the Christmas Festivities.

In November we welcomed Mr Watt and his son to host a special edition of the 'Antiques Road Show – 44 Club Glasgow style'! Members and guests brought along their valuables, hoping to discover untold riches. Although there were a couple of things that were worth more than a few pennies nothing mind blowing was seen! We did however hear a lot of historical details about several items and the meeting was definitely a success.
The first meeting of the new session took place on Thursday 15 October 2018. 13 members and guests were present, it was great to see everyone again.
Elaine gave a talk based on the Hurtigruten Coastal Voyage she and her husband were on in April. The talk was well received and the speaker was very relieved that all appeared to have gone well!!
The usual raffle etc took place and many thanks to those that provided raffle prizes.
